Volcano area is a weather/event-influenced biome in Ashes of Creation.[2]
We have many biomes in Ashes of Creation, but one of the things we're playing with that ties into a little bit maybe of the weather system- but I guess it's not just a weather system, it's like even an event system- like ash coming out of a volcano impacting the the local biome with this ash material layer or whatever that exists on terrain or foliage actors and stuff like that. Just to go the next level in seeing how events change the world. Seeing how weather can change the world. So you have a lot of these concepts of these biomes and not just the biomes but but these types of natural events that occur: the lava flowing, the whatever, and how that affects the nearby area.[2] – Steven Sharif
